Project Innovations LA

Project Innovations LA (PILA) helps people heal from trauma and empowers them to build lasting, positive change in their communities. While this innovative program was having a real impact on the ground, its identity and message out to the world was non-existent. I led a series of dynamic branding exercises and conducted qualitative research to surface the passionate voices of the PILA community. My goal was to develop a messaging framework that was grounded in the essential work of the people.

THE RESULT: A super-charged brand that champions the work and inspires program funding. Plus, we got a lot of really fun PILA swag!

Task

Develop a compelling narrative that amplifies the community’s voice, sparks new funding opportunities, and fuels growth for the PILA program.

"Our new branding has been used to highlight & advocate for the survival of our program. It will continue to be used to champion our work!"

// Natalia Garcia, Program Director @ PILA

Distilling and unifying your message is critical for caused-based organizations. Knowing how to talk about what you do and the impact you’re having instills trust, raises awareness, and elicits engagement.

Through authentic storytelling, we created a brand that renewed funding and will continue to sustain the program for years to come.

A bold brand for a truly unique program — funded by Para Los Niños and LA County’s Dept. of Mental Health.

What a beautiful, grassroots community here in Los Angeles. Hurrah for PILA!

⬤ 02. New NAme

We renamed the program to Project Innovations LA or PILA – which means "battery" in Spanish.

DISCOVERY: Branding Workshops, Staff Surveys, In-Depth Interviews, New Name & Brand Story Development.

We were thrilled to discover that the name’s acronym translated to “battery,” a fitting metaphor that added meaning to the message. We knew we were on to something special!
